FAA Administrator Michael Heurta Visits Singapore

FAA Safety Training ProgramsFAA Administrator Michael Heurta Visits Singapore – Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael Huerta today signed a milestone Maintenance Implementation Procedures (MIP) agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). He is visiting the Singapore Air Show and meeting with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) aviation leaders this week as part of his commitment to further U.S. global leadership in aviation.

The agreement with Singapore is the first of its kind in Asia and will set the standard for future agreements. It builds on the 2004 U.S-Singapore Bilateral Safety Agreement (BASA) which has benefitted both countries by saving time and reducing costs in aircraft design and manufacturing. The MIP will also reduce costs by allowing the reciprocal acceptance of Singapore and the United States’ surveillance of maintenance work.
“This landmark agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore will strengthen aviation safety while reducing the cost of inspections on repair work,” said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. “The United States looks forward to our continued collaboration with ASEAN Member States.”

As part of the strong U.S.-Singapore bilateral relationship, the FAA and the CAAS also partner under Singapore’s Air Traffic Management Center of Excellence to expand understanding and build Air Traffic Management capacity in the region.

In 2014, Administrator Huerta selected ‘global leadership’ as one of the FAA’s four strategic initiatives. The Global Leadership Initiative is transforming how the FAA prioritizes and targets resources to engage with the international aviation community to improve safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability through regulatory harmonization and partnerships.
