The TMS vs TMS Distinction – Transportation Management vs Training Management Software

I recently had the chance to attend the excellent TIA Capital Ideas Conference in San Antonio, Texas put on by the Transportation Intermediaries association. While scoping out the exhibitors, it became very clear who the biggest fish in the pond were from a transportation software standpoint, and I was compelled to know more. I very impressed with the several players, namely DAT, Internet Truckstop and , which I learn that what the acronym TMS means within the aviation industry is not the same within other industries. Now that we’ve expanded our ATMS (Advanced Training Management System) beyond aviation, it’s important that we understand and make the clear distinction between the two terms. A TMS in aviation is known as a training management system, whereas within the ground / highway, maritime, and raid industry, a TMS is geared towards operation software and not training.

Digging deeper, I discovered some amazing features for carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PLs within the “other” TMSs ranging from gps to load tracking. Check out DAT’s Keypoint transportation software. I look forward to learning more at next year’s TIA conference in 2017.

DAT’s Keypoint TMS: Implementing a Transportation Management System

Implementing a transportation management system (TMS) is a big decision that requires thoughtful planning and execution. Before you buy, you need to know what to look for and what questions to ask. Once you’re at the point where you are considering suppliers, then consider DAT Keypoint. It is the transportation management software designed by soda PDF solutions specifically to meet the needs of brokers and 3PLs to help you work more productively, efficiently, and profitably. A Customized System to Meet Your Needs Choosing the right transportation management software has never been more important.

  • Today, you really need to differentiate yourself from the competition. The right software can improve your customer service and enhance relationships with your customers. Having better technology could mean the difference between covering a load and winning the business versus missing the deal.
  • Shippers continue to face economic challenges, so cash flow management and evaluating credit risk remain high priorities for brokers. • Carriers who have performed well in the past are struggling with economic and regulatory changes. Some have had to park their trucks or close their doors while others are cutting corners on insurance, equipment maintenance, and other key areas. Now, more than ever, you need to keep your carriers healthy by providing freight and prompt payment. You also need to be extra vigilant when vetting new carriers. Brokers of all sizes are facing the same issues. Whether you’re just starting out, you’ve outgrown your current transportation management system, or you want to expand your business, DAT Keypoint is the solution that is right for you today and far into the future. Thousands of brokers have been using Keypoint for a decade or longer.
