A New LaGuardia Airport Is One Step Closer To Reality

After several lengthy delays, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Thursday took a major step towards replacing the Central Terminal Building (CTB) at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The Port Authority selected LaGuardia Gateway Partners, a consortium of various major construction and management firms, to develop and manage the new LaGuardia CTB, and also detailed some of the major improvements coming to the aging airport.

The current CTB, opened to the public in 1964, was designed with a passenger capacity of 8 million annual passengers in a 750,000 square foot building (later expanded to 835,000 square feet). In 2014, the CTB saw 13.5 million passengers flow through its doors, well above its original design capacity. “…LaGuardia has suffered from chronic under-investment and a piecemeal approach for far too long,” said Patrick Foye, Executive Director of the Port Authority.
